But even if you’re not a diehard Stoolie and just want to lay some action, you’ll find everything the best traditional sportsbooks offer on the Barstool app.

Pros and Cons for 2021

After testing 20 online sportsbooks for our 2021 review, here are our top findings on Barstool Sportsbook:

  • Barstool Sportsbook’s mobile app is easy to use, great for quickly placing bets, and exceeds the industry standard experience.
  • Stoolies will appreciate the “Betting with Barstool” feature which allows bettors to throw down money on bets created by popular Barstool personalities.
  • Fans of individual Barstool personalities may wonder why there isn’t more branded content — like video clips from the Barstool Sports Advisors show or Gambling Cave — integrated into the app.

Supported states: Michigan and Pennsylvania

Casino: Of the states Barstool Sportsbook operates in, Michigan and Pennsylvania have legalized online casino games. Barstool’s selection of casino games features 66 slots, virtual table games (such as roulette, blackjack) and virtual poker. Sports and Bets Offered

Barstool Sportsbook’s built-in hook is its own well-known brand. The site smartly integrates Barstool personalities into the experience, inviting users to follow their favorite podcast hosts and place bets with or against the wonky ones Barstool media personalities create. Beyond that, bettors are will find typical sportsbook fare — an average selection of sports (10 to 15 throughout the year), betting features, and common bet types. Noteworthy features include:

Bet with Barstool: “Bet with Barstool ” allows users to wager on bets made by Barstool Sports personalities. Popular favorites include Dave Portnoy, Dan (Big Cat) Katz, and Marty Mush. These bets — which Barstool brands as “Barstool Exclusives” — are often introduced first via other Barstool media shows. I discovered “The Hanson” (an over/under bet on the total points scored across all NFL games over the weekend) listening to my favorite sports podcast, Pardon My Take.

Some “Bet with Barstool” bets also feature increased odds. For example, Dave Portnoy’s future bet on the Patriots to win Super Bowl LV allowed users to place $10 on the Patriots at 100:1 odds, which were the best odds available at that time. Bet with Barstool is fun, and if you’re a Stoolie like me you’ll get a kick out of seeing what your favorite Barstool personalities are betting.

Barstool sports betting apps

Quick Pick 6: The Quick Pick 6 parlay builder recommends games with odds between -120 and +200 to build a parlay. (Reminder: A parlay bet is a group of bets, typically spread, moneyline, or total bets, combined into one bet to increase the payout odds. For the parlay to win, each separate bet has to win.) On Barstool’s website, users can select between two to six bets to parlay. However, the feature is more limiting on the mobile app, where bettors are required to choose six bets.

Although parlays are exciting, keep in mind that online betting sites like Barstool Sportsbook focus on enticing users to make more parlay bets because the odds favor the sportsbook.

Cash out feature: Like most sportsbooks, Barstool Sportsbook offers a cash out feature. This allows bettors to amend their original bet and lock in a profit or a loss by settling the bet (or a portion of the bet) before the event has finished.

Odds

We are still collecting odds data on Barstool Sportsbook. Our Barstool Sportsbook Odds rating will be released in early 2021.

Methodology: To score Odds, Moneyline.com gathers data from 21 sportsbooks over several months. For our 2020 Sportsbook Review, over 10,000 data points were collected for spread, moneyline, and over/under (bets).

I collected odds for spread, moneyline, and total bets for over 75 NFL games, 75 MLB games, 75 NBA games, 75 NHL games, 75 Soccer games (various leagues), and 75 NCAA Football and 75 NCAA Basketball games. When collecting odds, I collected the same games simultaneously for each sportsbook, ensuring data accuracy.

Live Betting

Even though it lacks several common live betting features — there’s no live match tracker, running clocks or live streaming — Barstool Sportsbook will keep you entertained with its exceptional assortment of live bet types.

Instant bets: Barstool offers action on a wide array of instant bets. Instant bets are bets on the next play or the next few minutes of a game. Examples of instant bets include: “What will the result of the Patriots’ next drive be? A touchdown, field goal, punt, or turnover?” or, “Will the Patriots score a first down on their next drive?” For tennis fans, an instant bet would be, “Who will score the next point?”

Prop bets: The variety of live prop bets on Barstool Sportsbook (there are often 10 to 15 live props going on) helps alleviate the absence of features such as a live match tracker. (Reminder: A live prop bet is a prop bet on a game currently being played (e.g., “Who will score the next touchdown for the Packers?”).)

Live match tracker: As noted earlier, you won’t find a live match tracker — an animated graphic that details which team is attacking — in Barstool’s live betting menu, even though it’s standard at most other sportsbooks.

But the live betting feature I miss most at Barstool is a running clock. Without a running clock, it’s harder to determine whether or not live odds are in sync with the TV broadcast. This oversight negatively impacted Barstool’s rating in this category.

Live Streaming: Barstool Sportsbook does not stream live sporting events through its app. Due to the high costs of licensing broadcasting rights, all sports betting sites that offer live streaming only do so for international games and less popular sports such as tennis. If live streaming is a must-have feature, check out FanDuel or Unibet.

Barstool Sportsbook Mobile App

When you’re looking up lines, adding bets to the bet slip, and adjusting account preferences, you want your online sportsbook experience to be seamless. The Barstool Sportsbook app is so easy to use that it instantly became one of my favorites. Creating an account takes less than five minutes (in my experience some sportsbooks take a lot longer), and users get an automatic free $10 bonus during signup , and another $5 bonus for customizing their accounts.

One major missed opportunity on both the Barstool Sportsbook mobile app and desktop website is the lack of integration of even more Barstool media content. Barstool is brimming with unique gambling content on its website and social media platforms. I’m sure fans would like to see more of it on the sportsbook app.

Education

I was hoping to see the Barstool touch extend to the sportsbook’s educational content. Alas , beyond a frequently asked questions section, Barstool Sportsbook offers minimal education. I can’t help imagining what they could have created with personalities like Marty Mush or Big Cat making funny videos to teach newcomers how to bet. Touches like this would give the sportsbook more personality — and a built-in edge over competing sportsbooks.

Bonuses & Promotions

Promotions at Barstool Sportsbook are legit, with standouts like risk-free bets up to four times the amount you’ll find elsewhere. Plus, there are plenty of chances for bettors to win exclusive Barstool apparel.

New customers: Barstool Sportsbook offers new customers a risk-free bet up to $1,000, as well as $15 for creating and customizing an account. Although risk-free bets are a common bonus in the industry, most sportsbooks only offer $250 or $500… a fraction of the value of Barstool’s promotion.

Existing customers: Ongoing promotions are one of Barstool Sportsbook’s specialties. In addition to typical promos (e.g., odds boosts and parlay boosts), Barstool dishes out exclusive Barstool Sports apparel, holds drawings to win cars like a Dodge Challenger, and fronts bonus cash tied to events where Barstool personalities compete.

I cackled when I saw a “DDTG Bets” (Davey Day Trader Global) promotion right after the 2021 GameStop/Reddit stock brouhaha. All bettors (regardless of the game outcome) who placed a minimum $25 wager on the Citadel Bulldogs vs. UNC Greensboro Spartans basketball game received a free t-shirt depicting the CEO of Robinhood as a clown.

Daily odds boosts: Like most sportsbooks, Barstool Sportsbook offers daily odds boosts. Here’s how it works: if Barstool boosted the odds of the Buffalo Bills and Tampa Bay Buccaneers to win by 7+ points from +212 to +250, you would win $2.50 instead of $2.12 for every $1 wagered.

Final Thoughts

You don’t have to be a Barstool fan to have a great sports betting experience with Barstool Sportsbook. The site’s betting tools and easy-to-use mobile app put it on par with the best sportsbooks around. For diehard Stoolies, features like Barstool-branded bets and promotions from popular personalities elevate gameplay even more.

The much-anticipated Barstool Sportsbook is now live in Pennsylvania.

It comes with an army of fans, bombastic “El Presidente” David Portnoy and high hopes from Penn National.

After a three-day test period, the Barstool Sportsbook achieved regulatory approval from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. It will now be available 24/7 to people 21+ physically located in Pennsylvania. Users can access it via desktop or by downloading it in the Apple App Store.

Through Barstool’s partnership with Hollywood Casino, Pennsylvania will be the first state in which it launches its sportsbook. A press release indicated that Penn National plans to bring the Barstool Sportsbook app to additional states in the coming months.

Invite-only launch

Barstool Sports Betting App Free

Barstool is the 10th online sportsbook in Pennsylvania. It is the first to limit the number of users during the test period.

During Penn National’s January acquisition of Barstool, Penn touted its 66 million monthly unique visitors. Jay Snowden, president and chief executive officer of Penn National, said:

“We believe the significant reach of Barstool Sports and loyalty of its audience will lead to meaningful reductions in customer acquisition and promotional costs for our sports betting and online products, significantly enhancing profitability and driving value for our shareholders.”

Of course, all 66 million people aren’t located in Pennsylvania, nor are they all going to download the app. However, the arrival of Barstool’s sports betting product comes with much anticipation and an already built-in audience.

Portnoy calls PA step one in plan for world domination

At around 1 p.m. EST on Sept. 15, Barstool went fully live. An email was sent from Portnoy shortly after to the site’s users. It said that Pennsylvania was “just step 1 of our world domination plan.”

“We plan to quickly launch in every state where sports gambling is legal. Just like how we’ve built this company brick by brick, we will launch state by state and give each state the attention it deserves.

“Obviously, my haters, of which there are many, are hoping we fail. Well, I have an undying faith in the loyalty of our fans that make me believe we will do what we always do, and that’s shut up the critics and astound Wall Street with our performance.”

The email ended with Portnoy saying that the Barstool Sportsbook app can be downloaded no matter where your location is. (However, you won’t be able to play until is legal in your state).

Portnoy bets big on Phillies and Pirates

Portnoy didn’t waste any time placing bets on the Philadelphia Phillies and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

A look at Barstool Sportsbook

Barstool Sportsbook comes with the standard wagering options and in-game wagering, cross-sports parlays, moneylines, futures, teasers, round robins and numerous prop bets. Deposit and withdrawal methods are similar to other PA sportsbook apps.

Barstool Sportsbook exclusives:

  • Barstool Personality Picks and Parlays: Daily opportunities to follow or fade the Barstool team’s picks and parlays
  • Quick Pick 6: A system-generated, random six-leg parlay where bettors can control the legs and the wager
  • Daily Odds Boosts

Also, the app has a “Move the Line” scroller that allows users to buy and sell points by using a scroller button.

Penn National betting big on Barstool

In late January, Penn National Gaming acquired a 36% stake in Barstool Sports for $163 million in cash and stock. The transaction valued Barstool at $450 million. The agreement gives Penn National the sole rights to use the Barstool Sports brand for its online sports betting and online casino products.

At the SBC Digital Summit North America in July, Jay Snowden, president and CEO of Penn National Gaming, discussed the acquisition.

“We knew the one thing that we were missing from a sports betting perspective at Penn was a brand to lead with and an audience to market to. We had great casino brands, but our audience today tends to skew older — 45-plus — and the sports bettors tend to skew younger — 21 to 45 — so that’s where we started to look at who we might want to partner with, and of course we eventually bought Barstool.”

“We’re going to lead with the Barstool brand from an online sports betting perspective,” he said. “We’re also in the process of converting our existing retail sportsbooks inside of our casinos and our sports bars to Barstool branded sportsbooks and sports bars.”

Penn National stock soars on Barstool launch day

Barstool Sports Betting App California

Penn National Gaming stock ($PENN) opened Nasdaq trading at $65.54 a share on Tuesday. It hit a 52-week high of $69.77 a share at around 11:25 a.m. But it beat that on Friday with a new high of $76.62. $PENN closed on Friday at $70.55

Penn’s stock gained steam when it announced the Barstool deal in late January. It wasn’t immune to the jarring effects of COVID-19 and sunk to less than $4 a share in March. But it bounced back in July, reaching $37 a share, then came on strong in late August at $56.

A book with interesting characters

With the arrival of the Barstool Sportsbook, Pennsylvania will have 10 online sportsbooks. However, until now, only Fox Bet has used personalities to market its product.

The Barstool Sportsbook will be unique in that it’s a sports media company entering the sports betting vertical. Also, no other sportsbook has an outspoken and sometimes controversial face of the product like Portnoy.

Said Snowden during the SBC Digital Summit:

“We obviously spent a lot of time doing diligence on Barstool, and we got very comfortable with making an investment in Barstool. Dave Portnoy and the folks at Barstool are a sort of meshing of Sports Center and Howard Stern and reality TV. It’s a sports media company, but at the end of the day, these are entertainers. They create content — they’re comedians.”
